2nd Annual Vettes on The Point
By adminAll Corvette Show
October 1-3, 2010.
Our first Vettes on The Point event in 2009 had over 150 cars in attendance. The Corvette community from 5 states and the District of Columbia gathered at The Point, a peninsula jutting out into Smith Mountain Lake. The setting provided one gorgeous view of the lake and surrounding mountains. And the weather was just – SPECTACULAR!

Cruise / Poker Run
The Poker Run will have registration both Friday night at the reception at Mariners Landing, the Corvette Show on Saturday, and Sunday morning starting at 9 am at Mariners Landing. The Poker Run is open to all motor vehicles with wheels and street legal!
Hands are $12 for the first hand, and $10 for each additional hand. Poker Cards will be drawn at local businesses along the Cruise route. The Cruise will be about 30 miles, with 4 stops along the way, and end up at the Bedford Visitors Center where you will draw your last card.
This year, you will have 2 chances to win; the first is the best hand for the deck. We will have only 9 hands per deck. We will auction off the remaining 9 cards in each deck, with 2 of these 9 cards guaranteed to be jokers! Best hand, will get 40% of the pot for that hand, and 10% of that pot will go to a “Best Overall Hand”. Also, worst hand for each deck will receive a door prize. Note: ACES will be high only, so worst hand would be 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.
After all winners for each deck are determined, we will again auction off cards to all participants. The Best Overall Hand will get the combined 10% from the other hands, as well as 50% of the final auctioned cards.
The Poker Run will start at 10 am sharp, and last about 2 hours. We will do staggered starts so that you have time to stop at some of the planned Poker Card Draw locations. Planned stops include a local winery by Smith Mountain Lake (with free wine tasting!); the Smith Mountain Chamber of Commerce; a sandwich shop is the 4th stop so you will have time to get a sandwich for lunch. You can go at your own pace for the Poker Run but all participants need to be at the final stop at 12:00 noon so we can draw for door prizes and poker hand payouts at the Bedford Visitors Center (near the entrance to the D-Day Memorial.
After the poker hands are determined, we are working on a complimentary tour of the D-Day Memorial for participants in the Poker Run.
This year, all proceeds will go to four charities located in the communities our club members live
- Frannie’s House. A domestic violence shelter in Altavista, VA
- Humane Society of Campbell County , located in Rustburg, VA
- Lynchburg Daily Bread, a food shelter in Lynchburg, VA
- National D-Day Memorial, a national monument for our World War 2 veterans located in Bedford, VA
